Aloha William, Feb 2009

When my friend William told me he was leaving our company for an IT job at the local university, I was able to come up with the perfect pattern. William wears a lot of Hawaiian shirts (in the summer, at least) and I found a paper-pieced I was just going to make a 4-block wall hanging, but my friend Lisa volunteered to make some shirt blocks, and we both came up with small-scale tropical prints. We didn't have to buy anything -- we had everything we needed to make this quilt in about a week. Lisa made 4 blue shirts, including the unicorn print, and I made the rest. The center of the quilt was done in a chevron pattern following the arms of the little shirts; the border was free-motion quilted in a pattern of flip flops.
