I Spy Circles and I Spy Squares : quilts for the W Twins

Made for Deason's twin grandkids, Emerson (I Spy Circles, adapted from a pattern called "Candy Pop lanterns") and Asa (I Spy Squares), adapted from a pattern called "Urban Chic" that used rectangles. I still have many I Spy novelty fabrics, and probably didn't buy more than a couple of additional fabrics for the twins.

Finished in 2017, but misplaced and not sent them until 2019 when uncovered in fabric storage area downstairs. Only a few fabrics purchased, noteably the black & white backs.

Emerson's quilt has a few girly fabrics, but shares the same fabrics as Asa's. This quilt is staggered rows of circles on black and white 3-strip squares, all using the same black and white fabrics. The backing fabric is charcoal with white stars, decorated with additional round appliques. It is quilted in straight lines with a varigated black/white thread.   Asa's quilt has many of the same blocks as Emerson's including the little yellow airplane (a tribute to their pilot grandfather). This quilt is black and white half squares. Unlike his sister's quilt, the black and white fabrics are scrappy. Backed with black and white sneaker fabric, it is quilted diagonally in alternate black and white lines.
