The Dragonfly Variations : a quilt for Sybil, July 2002 - Dec. 2017

This queen-size quilt was started when Sybil & I went with our husbands to an Eclipse Aviation event in Albuqueque, NM in 2002. We were in Old Town when Sybil fell in love with this dragonfly coaster set. While our husbands were in meetings, we drove our rental car all over the city, stopping at bookstores, malls, wherever. I wanted to go to a local fabric store, and I asked Sybil to pick out some fabric so I could make her a quilt. She picked out this lavendar/pink/blue/green Peter Pan print. I worked on the design, trying to make something original and new. Sybil wanted dragonflies (no butterflies) so I spent quite a while trying to machine embroider 6 blocks showed different scenes of dragonflies and flowers. I bought pinks, lavenders, and greens to make the setting blocks, and a dark purple for the sashing.
