Strippy Eagle 1849 Reproduction, July 2009-April 2010

Made in Karen Witt's class of July 2009, this 1849 reproduction quilt was displayed at the 2010 quilt station during Constitution Village's FolkLife Festival in April. Karen Witt's pattern is called "Nine Patch Strippy."

I only had to buy small portions of "poison green" and "cheddar yellow" fabrics to add to my reproduction fabric stash in order to get the correct mix of fabrics for the none patch squares on the front of the quilt. A few of the homespun plaids squares came from my friend Maria (taking the class but making a different quilt). The setting triangles were a red/blue floral on white which I dyed beige. The eagle fabric I'd had for many years after buying it at 2.95/yd at Hancock Fabrics in Duluth.

As Ms Witt recommended, this piece is quilted in straight diagonal lines. The backing is strip-pieced from blue/tan period fabrics combined with a light-weight decorator fabric n an old fashioned bird print.

I actually made this quilt smaller than directed in the instructions since I knew this was going to be a FolkLife display quilt not a bed quilt.
