Doggie Wedding: Fund Raising Quilt for SNAP, June 2009

A local pet-sitter known as Auntie Jen is holding a fund-raising event, "Pound Pup-tials & Bow Wow Vows," for SNAP and Huntsville Animal Services which will feature public dog weddings and pet adoptions, with vendor booths, raffles, and a silent auction. My friends Sam and Greg are providing gelato; it was Samantha who suggested that I make want to make quilt for this charity event since I'd made one for SNAP in the past.
This wallhanging is about 34" square. My friend Sybil suggested the wedding cake design, my friend Lisa gave me leftover bridal trims to use for the "cake" and sat with me as we poured over her cake decorating books for ideas (like the ruffle at the bottom of the cake). The "bones" are made of tan fleece. The top of the "cake" has a poodle bride and groom (the bride with pink and white tulle veils and the groom with a top hat and bow tie). The poodles were cut out from the black and white dog print that I used for one of the ARK telethon quilts a couple of years ago.
