Reproduction Quilts

I worked at the Quilt Station at the FolkLife Festival again in 2010. I completed two more historical reproductions: this 19th century triangle-star quilt (Tippi's Triangles) and the Strippy Eagle quilt (from class with Karen Witt). For the second year Lynn B. came to help out (thank goodness!) since there were several days when 400-500 kids were visiting.

In 2009, I came to a couple of HQH meetings dressed in costume and asked for volunteers to sit in the quilting station at Constitution Village's Folklife Festival. I got quilters to keep me company for 4 out of 5 days (Lynn B, Meg Z., Maria H.). I had made another couple of quilts this year, a reproduction bed quilt with cutouts for a four-poster bed, a hexagon cheater quilt, and a Dear Jane cheater quilt (which I hand quilt during the week). In 2008, the previous quilter couldn't work at the Folklife Festival at all (because of daughter's wedding), so I took over. I wrote up notes, made a reproduction Victorian crazy quilt (not period but very pretty), sewed a cheater quilt (ocean waves), and hung a couple of modern quilts up. A couple of regular non-quilter volunteers at the Village helped me out, but I was there demonstrating every day, this time in my own costumes (it is a lot easier to dress up at home).

In April 2007, I volunteered to help at the Folklife Festival at the Alabama Constitution Village, showing groups of school kids about quilting as it might have been done in 1819. For a couple of days, I dressed in costume (provided by the Village) and assisted another HQH quilter, Mia, who had done it many times and another volunteer, Karen. I even made my own bonnet.
