Kaia Jasmine
Oct. 15, 2005

Made this for my great-niece Kaia almost in time for her 1st birthday. Inspiration was this offset squares pattern from Maple Island. I found a number of Chinese-themed fabrics in stores in Huntsville, AL, and on the internet, including fortune cookies on red, red dragons on black, lanterns on blue, firecrackers on black, dragon parade. oriental dolls, with another version of the same dolls fabric as the border. One of the fabrics included was from Kris and Danny's (Kaia's parents) wedding quilt.
The embroidered squares include Kaia's name and birth date, jasmine flowers, a lantern, panda, fan, butterfly, and rooster (her Chinese zodiac sign),
The quilt back is soft blue "Minky" fabric and the entire top is quilted in a fan pattern, and bound with bright red commercial binding.
