Fake Jane, 2009-2014

Fake Jane is made from cheater fabric -- printed fabric that looks like a pieced quilt -- from Brenda Papadakis's Dear Jane I collection from Windham Fabrics in partnership with the Bennington Museum in Vermont.

Brenda Papadakis's book Dear Jane: the Two Hundred Twenty-five Patterns from the 1863 Jane A. Stickle Quilt (EZ Quilting by Wrights; 1996) has inspired quilters all over the world to make their own versions of Jane A. Stickle's quilt sampler. I used this quilt to practice my hand quilting during several Folk Life Festivals. I donated this quilt to the HQH comfy quilt program.

Windham Fabrics did 2 different cheater versions of the Dear Jane Sampler. This is #1, printed in fall 2009.

When I bought this fabric (probably about 2009), I volunteered one week a year at Constitution Village doing historical quilt talks. I put this quilt quickly just as it came from Patches & Stitches, backing it with an inexpensive rust and black tiny floral print, and using machine quilting around each of the squares. I used this quilt to practice hand quilting.

Finished quilting by machine and donated to SNAP, June 2014.
