The quilt pattern I chose was Babe in the Woods, by Rachel Shelbourne for Maywood Fabrics. This was designed for all flannel fabrics, but I used flannel only for parts of the hedgehog, bunny, and fox appliques.
Staying neutral was a challenge, but I finally found a quirky (mostly) neutral animal print called Forest Habitat (Mushroom Fan Club) to use as the primary print with gray, brown, tan, cream, black and white fabrics, using just a few red, green and blue fabrics matching colors in the print.
Finding appropriate backing fabric was difficult -- I finally found this nearly neutral print Coast to Coast with listing the US states with tiny icons (lobster for Main, peach for Georgia, sun for Alabama, and so on). Quilted in straight lines, except for free motion quilting in the applique blocks.
I gave the finished top to Cindy to show to her daughter for a baby shower in 2021, but did not get the top back until Oct 2022.
