Challenger's House Quilt, Jun. 2008

Karen A. found out that the all-cat, no-kill shelter, Challenger's House, was having an fundraising auction, and asked if I would be interested in making something.

I had a great black&white kitty print, and other black & white prints and one black & red print. I had seen someone do a quilt of cat bodies around a center Snail's Trail block and thought that would be pretty easy and quick. It took a little while to figure out the cat body pattern so I ended up with all the blocks being 14".

The corner blocks have the black and white cat print accented with hand colored red rugs. The outside border is black and white paw prints left over from last year's pink and black dog quilt. and the mouse corner blocks are from Janet Kime's The Cat's Meow quilt book, embellished with red piping trim, stitched down but unravelled into a tassel at the end.

The finished quilt ended up being about 45" square. I machine quilted it with wavy diagonal lines in a black and white varigated thread interspersed with an occasional red line.

My black & white cat Tippi was very interested in this quilt, both before it was done and after.
