Bookshelf Quilt for Ann's Retirement, July 2013

I've been wanting to make a bookshelf quilt for several years, and even ordered some wood grain fabric when it went on sale. Our friend Ann's retirement from a local library company was the perfect opportunity to make this quilt. Everything but the "wood" shelves was scraps, although I wish I'd taken more care in some of the skinnier strips because some of the books look like they're melting or bending.
The half-doily (from the thrift store) under the vase of flowers was originally white, but did not provide enough contrast with the vase. The vase was made from 2 layers of shiny, transparent tulle-like fabric from my crazy quilt bag. My vast stash of map fabic allowed me to find a pretty good piece to use for the globe.
