Bonny Blue Scotland

Made for my sister-in-law, Joanne, June 2006 - Sept. 2007. Done in reverse applique, the pattern, "Tartan Thistle," is from Georgia Bonesteel's Easy Does It Quilts (1995). I used 2 blue woven plaid fabrics, a Victorian lacy fern in dark blue, and a multi-blue floral. The backing fabric is the lighter blue plaid.

The white diagonal stripes are supposed to be St Andrew's cross, or Saltire, (Scotland's national flag).

The straight line quilting was done with a blue and white varigated thread, and some special Celtic quatrefoil and triscale knot designs done in white.
