Poodles in Paris
ARK Telethon Quilt, Sept. 13, 2009

As often happens, I found out that the Ark was going to have their fund raising telethon just a few weeks before the event, but I knew I could make an appropriate animal-themed quilt as long as it was a simple design.

I'd found this Phyllis Hoffman "Poodles in Paris" fabric with its coordinates on sale at Hancocks several years ago: the blue, the stripes, the floral, and the print of ladies walking poodles were all designed as part of this line; I added the plain brown, the tan check, and several different pink prints in the 16-patch blocks which alternate with half-square triangles in a design generally known as "Patches and Furrows" or "Straight Furrows."

At first I just quilted in straight diagonal lines, but at the last minute I added the decorative poodles and Eiffel Tower designs in many of the half-square triangle blocks. These machine embroidered designs show up very clearly on the back, with dark brown thread against peach background.

This quilt was given to someone offering a large pledge in the telethon (over $33,000 raised total)
