Okefenoke : Alzheimer's Memory Walk, Sept. 29, 2007

I found these great fabrics this summer in a fabric store in Superior, Wis. Lisa W. and I got together one afternoon to cut out my fabric and hers according to instructions in Nine-Patch Pizzazz, a book we both liked. The large-scale water lily fabric worked so well with the light blue pine needle, the dark olive floral, and the tiny pale green print, that I was able to finish the top in just a weekend. I already had the turquoise inner border, and shopped locally for the green border and the silvery green aligator-like binding.

Once again, Lynn B., one of my aerobic dance instructors, asked if I would do a quilt for the Alzheimer Memory Walk silent auction. I just had to layer it and quilt it. The olive green and blue backing was a linen blend I got at Joann's very cheaply, several years ago. After trimming the border and doing some piecing, it was a perfect fit.

The body of the quilt was done in a simple wavy diagonals with a yellow-green varigated thread. The inner border was done in tiny leaves with the same thread. The outer border was embroidered in a blue-green varigated thread with alternating lillies and leaves.

Olivia from my aerobics class had the winning bid at $50.00.
